Nikos Stavropoulos / GENERAL MANAGER (2014-15)
Greek basketball’s “Magic” began his career in 1975 with the Gymnastikos Club of Larissa, while he then established himself wearing the colors of PAOK (1983-1992). The amount of 10,000,000 drachmas that was paid in 1983 for his transfer to PAOK, was insurmountable for the times being. With PAOK, he won the Greek Cup (1984) and the Greek League (1992), as well as the European Cup (1991), while he also participated the European Cup final (1992). From 1979 till 1988 he was international and a basic member of the National Men’s team, with which he won the golden medal in the 1987 Eurobasket in Athens. He completed his career in 1993 with Iraklis. He remained in history as the first player to have scored a three pointer for the Greek league.
He made his first coaching steps next to the “guru” of coaching Bobby Knight at the University of Indiana and he then became the associate of Panagiotis Giannakis with the National Men’s team (1997-1998). He was the head coach of the Junior National team (bronze medal in the 2000 and 2002 Eurobaskets), the National Young Men’s team (bronze medal in the World Championship of 2003) and of the Mediterranean team (silver medal in Tunis in 2001), while he also worked with Olympia Larissa and PAOK, where he returned in 2009 taking over as a Technical Director.
